Sto. Tomas Parish Church of Danao City
The church of Danao was constructed in 1755 by Fr. Manuel de Santa Barbara, and was made up of materials from sugar cane and rocks from the sea. The crucero of the church was built in the 1800’s. However, it suffered a partial destruction (was burned in 1942) during the World War II. Religious items and other important materials were also burned. From the original construction materials of the church, only the solid stones were spared from the fire. It was reconstructed in 1946. In 1981, the building underwent another renovation, this time almost a complete overhaul (only 30% of the original stands). The renovation was completed in 1985.
Very interesting about this church are the bells, which are named according to saints. The San Alipio bell, cast in 1845 and weighing 45 kilos, is the oldest. Two others, cast in 1917 were added and these were the Villanueva bell (630 kilos) and the Sagrado Corazon bell (249 kilos).

Niadtong tuig 1890-1900, ang Barangay Talaga, gihinganlan pa kaniadto og BARRIO HERNANDEZ, sa Argao, Sugbo. Bisan gamay pa kaayo ang nanimuyo niini kaniadto, ang katawhan naningkamot sa pagtuon sa Doctrina Cristiana nga gitudlo sa mga Kapariang Katsila dinhi sa Pilipinas ug nasibot sila sa pagdebosyon sa mga Santos sa Dios, pinaagi sa pagpangadye sa mga Nobena. Sa panahon sa ilang hinugpong mga pag-ampo, nabatasan nila ang pagbasa sa GOZOS ni Sto. Tomas de Villanueva. Busa, tungod niining maong debosyon, ang mga kadagkuan sa Barrio Hernandez (Talaga) nagkasabot nga si Sto. Tomas maoy himuon nilang patron sa ilang kapilya. Nakapangayo sila og imahen ni Sto. Tomas didto sa parokya sa Argao, Sugbo.
Ang dakong panalangin nga gihatag sa Dios sa katawhan, sa ilang makanunayon ug mainitong pagdebosyon, mao ang pormal nga pagkatukod sa Parokya ni Sto. Tomas de Villanueva dinhi sa kaniadto-Barrio Hernandez, karon Barangay Talaga, sa tuig 1922 si Obispo Juan Bautista Gorordo sa Sugbo. Gilangkoban kini sa mga Barangay Talaga, Balisong, Casay, Bogo, Canbantug, Tiguib ug kabahin sa Barangay Bug-ot, nga karon gitawag og Lower Bug-ot.

Foundation of the Church
April 10, 1866 - became an independent parish by diocesan decree. It used to be a visita of San Nicolas with Sto. Tomas de Villanueva as its patron.
Construction of the Church
A temporary church made of light materials was built in 1866 by Fr. Domingo Sanchez, parish priest of San Nicolas. Destroyed by the typhoon of November 25, 1877, Fr. Manuel Ibeas started the construction of a new one using strong materials from 1880 to 1893. It was completed by the succeeding parish priests. Made of masonry, the church has two towers with a porch in front and is spacious, surrounded by massive buttresses.
